I agree. The thing is, if we just joined forces, all of us vegans worldwide - there are thousands of us online - and each paid a small amount, we could get unlimited media coverage in doing advertising; I find it really frustrating that people are so unwilling to pay just a little bit in order to get things moving.

 

Controversy can only get so far, and if we're not careful only the negative will emerge (of course, all publicity is good publicity in the end), so, as you say, we need a good strategy on how to get people's attention.

I found this article on street stall campaigning quite inspiring.

One particularly good thing about the story is that the person (Elizabeth Collins) says she does it without using a car; just using a bus to get around, and a carriable fold up table. This method would make it easier for more people to campaign.

I also think we should get in amongst general open air markets and sell ethical products at the same time as giving information out.

Sorry about the delay in replying to your post, it is because i am not well trained in computers. I believe it would be a waste of time trying to stop people from killing animals because most people are cruel and selfish anyway, it is the nature of the beast. Some will reply with insults or even violence. That is why i believe the only way to make progress is for kind vegans to live together where we can be seen to be happy and hopefully rich too then we may make some progress. Most people are too narrow minded and afraid to believe in a different life than the one they have known since birth and if we were friends we would not want to be apart anyway, would we?

I agree totally. One should most likely always assume that people are mean and stupid and offer them alternatives that are attractive to them on those terms, but kind and moral, and preferably a little educational too. It's not cynicism as such, but a realistic expectation, and one that should not look down on anyone; we should just focus on building attractive systems for everything where there are now cruelty - of course food is such an issue, and much are already done in creating tasty dishes that even meat eaters like, but much remains to be done.

Whatever ideas we may have about getting stronger to help the animals and each other we are not getting anywhere and the suffering continues. I see the main problem is the obvious fact there are not many vegans and most are for whatever reason not doing much but all our efforts are unlikely to produce the desired result because we are thinly spread all over the world and are unlikely and or unwilling to ever meet and if we were to chat none stop it would achieve nothing which is as well because nobody is chatting anyway. Perhaps we could learn from the convent, a group of like minded people growing own food and always open to new members. It has always worked for them, why not us? With a building we would be seen to exist instead of this imaginary group that never will. It would be a focal point and journalists would take an interest and act as free advertising in the right kind of magazines. We will not get anywhere if people do not know about us. The Findhorn centre, in Scotland charge £450 per week for visitors. I am against charging anything because most can not afford to pay and it is wrong to charge friends anyway but they are full while we are empty. Giant size fruit pies, must be right.
