Things did quiet down a bit - e.g. channel 5 didn't get in touch with me again, and the article in the "Land" newspaper isn't out yet. However, the "Länsstyrelsen" talked to someone on "Jordbruksverket" (agricultural authority - yes, it's sort of the same, but eh, I don't know) who said, like people do, that cats have to have meat otherwise they won't survive, and Länsstyrelsen always works on Jordbruksverket's words, apparently, so they've urged me to change the food. If I don't comply they'll make it a more firm decision - one that I can appeal on (I can't do that on this first 'decision'). I've written to them with some links to e.g. the Vegan Sociey's view on the matter and on the reply I've gotten from VeggiePets (where they claim to have been selling to Sweden for years without any such governmental problems). We'll see how they take it.

By the way, how did all this go in the end? Did things quieten down? Did your critics accept the truth in the end?

If you start getting a lot of grief then it might be a good idea to direct the media towards companies who've had a lot of practice in dealing with inevitable questions raised. Veggiepets is the biggest retailer in Europe and their customers can't all be wrong. Might help if other people in Sweden who feed their pets vegan/vegetarian diets came forward.

It's also important for people to remember that vegan pet foods are usually made to AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) standards (all the professional ones I know are) which is a respected important organisation with no animal rights bias.

Yeah, very fortunate headlining... =( The newspaper "Land" (same meaning as in English) is having a larger piece on this next issue, I think. They were here yesterday at least. And if the people from "Kanal5" (channel 5) gets out of the traffic jam they're in right now it will also appear on the new "Filip & Fredrik" show on Monday, called "Breaking News"... Don't know how to feel about all this...

Ahh, now they've made a small article about it in NWT (local paper). The headline was ''Kittens forced to be vegan''. Swedish media aren't very fond of animal rights, are they?

Should be a link to the article down here, it's in swedish, of course.

Haha, yeah, they felt the need to balance the vegan report by removing the vegetarian alternative from the previous report on school meals... =P That might actually be the case, paranoid as it sounds, but not unusual is they 'forgot' the veggie dishes. The world is so skewed.

Very nice, seems like they're healthy to me, I am no expert on kittens though. As always when SVT makes a report on animal rights, they seem not be very fond of them.

I also noticed that right beofre the report on your kittens they mentioned that in Kil, you always get to choose between at least two dishes in the school cafeteria. There are always three dishes though, but I suppose they don't count the vegetarian one.
